Day 1 - Welcome to Panama CityCheck in to the deluxe
InterContinental Miramar overlooking Panama Bay.
Day 2 - Old and new in Panama CityMarvel at the Miraflores Locks and watch ships transiting the Panama Canal as your guide shares unique insight and the dramatic history of the Canal. Then cross the bay into Casco Antiguo#WHS#, founded in 1673, for a walking tour along charming cobblestone streets and splendidly-preserved Colonial architecture. Meals B
Day 3 - Through the Panama Canal!An unforgettable day unfolds as you journey from the Pacific to the Atlantic on a full Canal transit. Enter into the Miraflores Locks and through the Gaillard Cut to cross Gatun Lake, passing by the Smithsonian Research Station at Barro Colorado. Then descend through the Gatun Locks, the only set of locks in the Atlantic sector of the Canal. Upon arrival in Cristobal, it’s a scenic drive to the
Gamboa Rainforest Resort, set on the banks of the Chagres River. Meals B,L
Day 4 - Gamboa Rainforest ResortYou have a full day at leisure to enjoy the fabulous amenities of your tropical resort. Relax poolside or join some of the available activities, like birdwatching, naturalist-guided wildlife tours and fishing on Gatun Lake. Meals B
Day 5 - By rail from Portobelo to the PacificExplore the Caribbean town of Portobelo#WHS#, rich with history and impressive ruins of Colonial-era fortifications. Visit the 17th-century Custom House and see the amazing Christo Negro statue, which appeared mysteriously in Portobelo in the mid-1600s. Enjoy a Caribbean lunch and a lively performance of Afro-Caribbean dance by
Congos, descendants of former slaves brought by Spanish Conquistadors.
Then transfer to Colon Station for a transcontinental trip on the historic
Panama Railroad, originally built in 1855. This journey follows alongside the Canal through the tropical rainforest, with superb views of the Canal and ship traffic. Upon arrival at Corozal Station, it’s a pleasant drive to the
