Day 1 - Monday, Aug 30 – Welcome to BavariaUpon arrival in Munich, you’ll be escorted by deluxe air-conditioned motorcoach to the Alpine village of Ettal where comfortable guestrooms await at the
Ludwig der Bayer Hotel. There’s time to freshen up before your meeting with one of the abbots from the historic Ettal Church. He will personally lead your tour of this 14th century Benedictine Abbey, including its famed brewery and distillery. Meals D
Day 2 - Tuesday, Aug 31 – Oberammergau & the Passion PlayVisit the Oberammergau Museum to learn the inspiring history of this town and delight in the village’s colorfully painted homes, centuries old and wonderfully preserved. Along the way, charming shops reveal the woodcarving skills of many of the town’s residents, whose families have perfected this craft over the past 800 years. Following lunch, you’ll be escorted to your reserved center orchestra seats in the historic Passion Play Theater as 2,000 actors take to the open-air stage, framed by a natural backdrop of spectacular Alpine scenery. The once-in-a-lifetime Passion Play is presented in two parts, including dinner in-town during intermission. Following the performance, you return to your hotel. Meals B,L,D
Day 3 - Wednesday, Sep 1 – From King Ludwig II’s Fairytale Castle to MunichThis morning’s journey brings you into a picture-perfect landscape of forested slopes and looming granite peaks. Your destination is Neuschwanstein, the turreted fantasy built by King Ludwig II. Strains of music from the best-loved compositions of Richard Wagner may ring in your ear as you marvel at the Castle’s numerous interior paintings, many inspired by his most famous operas. Day 4 - Thursday, Sep 2 – Out and about in Old MunichMunich is one of Europe’s friendliest and loveliest cities! Experience these charms for yourself as you explore through Old Town with your guide. Admire the lavish architectural flourishes of Town Wall and stand beneath the towering dome-capped spires of the historic Cathedral Church of Our Lady – an imposing symbol in the Munich skyline. You might find yourself humming some familiar melodies in the colorful Mirabelle Garden, easily recognized from scenes in
The Sound of Music. In Old Town, you’ll admire the imposing 15th century Cathedral, stroll along
Getreidegasse, the city’s celebrated pedestrian shopping street, and see the home of Wolfgang Mozart. Then journey into a peaceful Bavarian valley to gaze in awe upon Linderhof. Originally, this was to be a private hunting lodge for King Ludwig II. But the King soon had grander plans, envisioning a new Versailles, and by its completion in 1878, this royal residence had become a French-inspired confection of Baroque and Rococo opulence. Back in Munich, your evening is free to step out and enjoy as you wish. Meals B
Day 6 - Saturday, Sep 4 – Farewell to GermanyAfter breakfast, a group transfer brings you to the Munich Airport for your homeward flight. Meals B
