Today, you’ll visit three of the city’s most impressive. In the bustling Chinatown district, you’ll tour Wat Trimitr, the Temple of the Golden Buddha, home to the largest solid gold Buddha in the world, standing 15 feet tall and weighing more than 5 tons! At Wat Po, built in the 16th century, you’ll marvel at the enormous gold-leafed reclining Buddha – stretching nearly 150 feet from head to toe! You also visit the Marble Temple, a fine example of Thai architecture with European Neoclassical influences, built from imported Carrera marble and housing a large cast bronze statue of Buddha. Your afternoon is at leisure to explore at your own pace. Meals B Day 3 - Bangkok / Chiang Mai A private car transfer brings you to the airport for your one hour flight to Chiang Mai. Meals B Your choice of accommodations Day 4 - Chiang Mai Your car, driver and guide await this morning to show you the highlights of Chiang Mai, including the old city walls and one of the original gates into town. You’ll explore a local market and tour Wat Chiang Man, the oldest temple in the city and famed for its unusual stone elephant buttresses. You also visit the lovely Wat Phrasing and the enormous pagoda at Wat Jedihuang. You’ll return to your hotel with the rest of the day free to do as you wish. Meals B Day 5 - Chiang Mai / Siem Reap – Visit Angkor Wat You’ll be escorted to the airport this morning for your flight to Siem Reap. Upon arrival, our guide is waiting with a car to transfer you to your chosen hotel. Later in the afternoon, join your private guide to begin your exploration through the magnificent jungle ruins of Angkor #WHS#, once the royal seat of the mighty and wealthy Khmer Empire. Today you’ll visit Angkor Wat, the largest temple complex in the world. As the day retreats from the sprawling jungle ruins, your expert guide will lead you to a prime vantage point to witness the sun set over Angkor. Meals B Your choice of accommodations Day 6 - Siem Reap – Explore Angkor This morning you will discover the monumental magnificence of Angkor Thom – the last capital of the Khmers, with its Elephant Terrace, the Terrace of the Leper King, and the stunning Bayon temple. This 12th century masterpiece lies at the very centre of Angkor Thom and is an archaeological wonder of symmetry and grandeur. This afternoon, continue your exploration of Angkor’s impressive temple and city ruins, including Prasat Kravan, Banteay Kdei, Chau Say Tevoda, and Ta Prohm – a 12th century temple that has been left largely un-restored and in its natural state, surrounded by jungle with massive roots and limbs enveloping the stone like tentacles. Meals B Day 7 - Siem Reap / Tonle Sap Lake / Bangkok This morning’s excursion brings you to the shores of Tonle Sap Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia. Boarding small boats, you’ll voyage across the calm waters to visit the unique floating villages of fishing families and their small fish farms; it’s a fascinating look into the rhythms of daily life. Returning to Siem Reap, you’ll stop by Les Artisans d’Angkor to see the important work being done to preserve the traditional skills of Cambodia’s artisans.
