Day 1 - Lima, Peru
Check-in to the deluxe JW Marriott Hotel, dramatically set on the oceanside cliffs of the lively Miraflores district. Day 2 - Lima Sightseeing The Spanish colonial mansions and churches of historic Lima#WHS# and the modern districts of San Isidro and Miraflores make the capital a study in contrasts. Discover both facets of the city and then visit the Larco Herrera Museum, located in a lovely Vice Royal’s mansion of the 18th century. The extensive collection of this world-famous museum, including ancient gold and silver objects, offers an excellent introduction to the history and cultures you’ll explore throughout your journey. Later this evening, gather with your fellow travelers for a welcome dinner. Meals B,D Day 3 - Lima / Panamerican Highway / Nazca Lines Travel south along the famed Panamerican Highway to Nazca, where you take to the skies in a small plane for a birds-eye view of the Nazca Lines#WHS#, one of the world’s great mysteries. Etched into the Earth below, you’ll marvel at these enormous line drawings that cover the arid plain – including a spider, condor, fish and monkey. Meals B Day 4 - Paracas / Ballestas Islands / Lima This morning finds you on the way to Peru’s largest coastal wildlife sanctuary, including the Ballestas Islands. Your cruise excursion is a great way to see the indigenous wildlife, including thousands of resident and migratory sea birds and colonies of sea lions and seals. In the afternoon, you return to the deluxe JW Marriott Hotel. Meals B,L Day 5 - Lima / Cuzco / Sacred Valley Fly to Cuzco#WHS#, the ancient capital of the once vast and mighty Inca Empire. Then journey into the Sacred Valley to explore the colorful market in Pisac, an Andean village nestled at the base of mighty peaks. Stop by a charming hacienda overlooking the Sacred Valley for lunch before exploring Ollantaytambo – an imposing Incan fortress overlooking a small town where the narrow streets and canals have remained unchanged since Inca times. Continue on to the Casa Andina Private Collection, a deluxe resort nestled here in the Sacred Valley. Meals B,L,D Day 6 - Sacred Valley / Machu Picchu A two-day visit to Machu Picchu#WHS# begins with a train ride along the Urubamba River. As you explore the mountain-top citadel of Machu Picchu, our expert guide will offer insight into the amazing culture behind this legendary ‘Lost City of the Inca. Tonight, you’ll slumber peacefully at the Inkaterra El Pueblo Hotel, a charming deluxe resort set in a tranquil cloud forest at the base of Machu Picchu. Meals B,L,D Day 7 - Machu Picchu / Cuzco Enjoy the luxury of a second, unplanned day to explore Machu Picchu on your own in the softer early morning light – and when most of the tourists are gone. Return to Cuzco by train and check-in to the famed Libertador Hotel, a deluxe retreat with an enviable location in the historic heart of this ancient city – surrounded by magnificent Inca and Colonial buildings. Meals B,D Day 9 - Cuzco / Lake Titicaca Perched 12,400 feet above sea level, Puno and the surrounding countryside are the cradle of the Aymara civilization – and the legendary birthplace of the Inca Empire’s founders. Today’s spectacular overland journey from Cuzco transports you through some of the most breathtaking scenery on the Continent. Your destination is the deluxe Libertador Hotel, set on the shores of one of the highest lakes in the world. Meals B,L,D Day 10 - Tour Lake Titicaca A full-day excursion on Lake Titicaca visits remarkable floating islands built on layers of totora reeds and home to the traditional Uros communities. Continue on to Taquile, where islanders speak Aymara, the language of the High Andean plateau, and craft handsome textiles with ancient techniques. Meals B,L Day 11 - Puno / Sillustani / Lima Overlooking Lake Umayo are the imposing burial towers of Sillustani, once used for high-ranking Aymara Lords. Visit this pre-Incan site and the home of a local Andean family before your flight back to the capital, where we’ve arranged a farewell dinner at one of our favorite restaurants.
