The Jianguo Hotel in Beijing is the first international hotel in China since 1982, and the only garden hotel in Beijing. The hotel is situated at the diplomatic quarter of Beijing, but it is walking distance from the metro and the Silk Street Market. All guest rooms have air-conditioning, voicemail, telephone, cable TV, and mini-bar. Other hotel amenities include indoor heated pool, sauna, and fitness room.

Day 1 - Tokyo, Japan
Check-in to the deluxe Keio Plaza Hotel, perfectly located in Shinjuku, one of Tokyo’s most popular districts for world-class shopping, great dining, and diverse entertainment.

Day 2 - Tokyo
Tokyo is planted squarely in the 21st century and modern in every respect. But delve deeper and you’ll find ancient sites and age-old traditions - a fascinating contrast which you’ll explore today. Your visit to the picturesque Imperial Palace Plaza offers insight into the private lives of Japan’s Imperial family. Later, stroll among the vendors of the bustling Nakamise Arcade to Asakusa Kannon Temple, the oldest in the city, and then take in the breathtaking views from the new Roppongi Hills City View Observatory. Enjoy a Japanese lunch and discover the intricacy and grace of the Japanese tea ceremony. Meals B,L

Day 3 - Tokyo
Enjoy a day at leisure. Your hotel’s prime location close to shopping, dining, and transportation makes it easy to explore on your own. From April to November, you can join an available tour to Nikko#WHS# to see the magnificent Toshogu Shrine, set against the wooded splendor of Nikko National Park. Meals B

Day 4 - Tokyo / Mt. Fuji / Hakone
Depart Tokyo and ascend the forested slopes of Mt. Fuji for marvelous views from the halfway point. Travel on to Hakone, a popular mountain resort, and cruise across Lake Ashi before a cable car ride up Mt. Komaga-take. Tonight, relax in a soothing onsen, a traditional hot-spring bath, before dining at your deluxe resort hotel, the Hilton Odawara. Meals B,D

Day 5 - Hakone / Kyoto
Step aboard the world-famous Bullet Train! Traveling at speeds up to 180 miles per hour, you’ll arrive in Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan and still the spiritual and artistic heart of the country. Upon arrival, transfer to the 4-star Rihga Royal Hotel in the heart of the city. Or, you can experience a traditional Japanese inn for one night by staying at the Yoshi-ima Ryokan, including a Japanese dinner, breakfast and tea ceremony. Day 6 - Discover Kyoto
Join your guide for an in-depth exploration of Kyoto’s most revered sights: Kinkaku-ji Temple#WHS#, the Golden Pavilion; the impressive, vermilion-hued Heian Shrine; and Sanjusangendo Temple with its 1,001 statues of Buddha. Hear riveting tales of the Shogun on your visit to Nijo Castle and then sit down with Geisha for our specially arranged luncheon. Day 7 - Kyoto – Nara Excursion
After a leisurely morning to enjoy as you wish, embark on a fascinating excursion to the ancient capital, Nara#WHS#. Visit Todai-ji Temple to see the giant Buddha and stroll the forested, lantern-lined paths of Kasuga Shrine. At Nara’s famous Deer Park, you can wander among hundreds of tame deer. Meals B

Day 8 - Kyoto / Beijing
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Beijing. [Note: This flight is not included in the Land-Only price for this tour. However, all flights within China are included in the Tour Fare.] Upon arrival you’ll be met and escorted to the inviting Jianguo Hotel, located on Beijing’s main avenue, with well-appointed guestrooms and fine restaurants amidst landscaped gardens. Day 9 - Discover Beijing
Your full day escorted sightseeing begins in Tiananmen Square and continues through the splendid courtyards, pavilions, and palaces of the imposing Forbidden City#WHS#, once the exclusive enclave of Ming Dynasty Emperors. Then step aboard rickshaws to ride through a hutong, one of Beijing’s old settlements, where you’ll meet with a resident family to learn about daily life in this fascinating city. Meals B,L

Day 10 - – Great Wall & Ming Tombs Excursion
A thrilling day unfolds as you travel into the rugged mountain landscapes north of Beijing, where the Great Wall#WHS# stretches onward for thousands of miles. You’ll walk atop this ancient fortification and then stroll along the statue-lined Sacred Way to visit the Ming Tombs#WHS#, burial site of 13 Chinese Emperors. Meals B,L

Day 11 - Beijing / Yichang – Embark your luxury ship
This morning you visit the Summer Palace#WHS#, the lovely seasonal retreat of Chinese emperors. From April through October, a tranquil boat ride on Kunming Lake is included. Back in the city, you see the stunning 2008 Olympic venues including the futuristic Aquatics Center, known as the Water Cube. In the afternoon, fly to Yichang and enjoy a dinner of regional cuisine. Then step aboard our luxury ship, the all-balcony Victoria Anna, to begin your voyage up this legendary river. Meals B,D

Day 12 - Cruising / Three Gorges Dam
The Three Gorges Dam has altered the landscapes and life of vast stretches of central China. Your visit to the Dam this morning reveals the far-reaching impact of this amazing engineering feat. Later, the Anna enters the 5-stage ship locks of the dam itself. Meals B,L,D

Day 13 - Cruising / Shennong Stream / Three Gorges
Disembark onto small boats for a dramatic journey up Shennong Stream, one of the most scenic of the Yangtze’s tributaries. Back on board, your ship continues through the lovely Wu Gorge and Qutang Gorge, the narrowest and some say most spectacular of the Three Gorges. Meals B,L,D

Day 14 - Cruising / Fengdu
Today’s excursion explores the famous “Ghost City” of Fengdu. Numerous temples here, some dating to the 14th century, feature fantastic carvings and depictions of spirits and beings from Chinese mythologies. Meals B,L,D

Day 15 - Arrive Chongqing / Fly to Xian
Upon disembarkation, a brief tour includes the Panda Hall at the Chongqing Zoo. Then fly to Xian, the ancient capital of China for 13 dynasties, for a 2-night stay at the beautifully-renovated Grand New World Hotel. Meals B,L

Day 16 - Xian
The Terra Cotta Warriors#WHS# is China’s most important archaeological discovery, a vast terra cotta army buried 2,000 years ago to guard the tomb of China’s first emperor. Today, you visit the excavation site where thousands of life-sized warriors and horses have been uncovered. Your sightseeing also includes the picturesque Big Wild Goose Pagoda. At lunch, enjoy a lively demonstration in the art of noodle-making. Meals B,L

Day 17 - Xian / Shanghai
Today you fly to Shanghai where you’ll be transferred to the Salvo Hotel, ideally located in the heart of the city close to the Bund and world-famous Nanjing Road. Meals B

Day 18 - Explore Shanghai
Today’s in-depth sightseeing begins with a drive along the Bund, Shanghai’s elegant waterfront boulevard. Marvel at the towering skyscrapers in the Pudong District that have literally transformed the city’s skyline. Stroll through the lovely Yu Yuan Garden and explore the impressive collection of the Shanghai Museum. Meals B,L
