Stroll through the colorful Porta Palazzo market to the 15th century Duomo di San Giovanni to see the Shroud of Torino. Continue to the Palazzo Reale, the former Savoy royal residence and visit the beautiful 17th century Church of San Lorenzo. Stop into a local café with your guide for a Bicerini, coffee mixed with chocolate liqueur. The balance of the day is at leisure to discover more of Torino at your own pace. A trainer of truffle-hunting dogs will discuss his work and the regional truffle industry, an important source of delicate white truffles. It may not be the season, but you’ll “truffle hunt” with these dogs in a fascinating simulation. Continue to Alba for a tour of this charming town, graced with beautiful medieval towers and Gothic buildings. There will be free time to browse the shops of Via Vittoria before a pleasant lunch of regional specialties. At the Fontanafredda Winery, one of the oldest in Piemonte, you’ll enjoy a tour and tasting of their fine vintages, including rich and powerful red wines.
