Day 5 - Legendary sites of antiquityExtensive private car sightseeing begins this morning in Amman. Ascend the ancient citadel and visit the Roman amphitheater built during the reign of Marcus Aurelius. Its steeply raked seating could accommodate 6,000 spectators and the acoustics today are still near-perfect; from the top row of seats, you can hear the conversations of people on the stage far below.
Then travel north past the outskirts of the city into the picturesque rolling hills of northern Jordan to explore Jerash with your expert personal guide. Known as the ‘Pompeii of the East,’ it’s considered by many to be the best preserved Provincial Roman city in the world. Day 7 - Venture into the Lost City of Petra #WHS#Mighty Petra was a strategic link in ancient caravan routes and is still stunningly preserved after nearly 2,000 years. Built by the Nabateans and later abandoned, it was lost to civilization for centuries until its re-discovery by a Swiss adventurer. The entire city is carved into the sides of a deep gorge, and the only entrance is through a narrow opening called the Siq. As your private guide leads you into Petra from between these 100-foot cliffs, a remarkable vista unfolds… Temples, tombs and dwellings chiseled out of the solid, rose-hued stone. Your unhurried guided exploration includes the famous Treasury, the Roman Theater, the Temple of the Winged Lion and numerous other ancient monuments. Meals B
Day 8 - Wadi Rum and the landscapes of Lawrence of ArabiaJourney into the haunting desert landscapes of Wadi Rum. Explore by jeep in this remote region, where sandstone and granite mountains rise, sheer-sided, from wide sandy valleys, to reach heights of 4,000 feet and more. Continue on to Amman where our tour services end at the airport for check in to your onward flight. Meals B.
