Hotel Accommodations: Prime Hotel (Beijing , China) The Prime Hotel is located in the city center, on the famous Wang Fu Jing Avenue. The Prime Hotel is within easy reach of the Forbidden City as well as the popular shopping district. Ger Camp (Gobi, Mongolia) Set up as a traditional Mongolian tent city, guests at the Ger Camp stay in authentic family tents in the Gobi desert. Three Camels Lodge (Gobi, Mongolia) The Three Camel Lodge was built to complement its natural surroundings and to utilize renewable energy sources, taking advantage of both solar and wind power. Local artisans and workers crafted the roofs of the buildings in accordance with the canons of Mongolian Buddhist architecture, without using a single nail. Meals, which include traditional Mongolian dishes, are served in an authentic over-sized ger, and food and supplies are purchased from local farms and suppliers. It’s now celebrated throughout the land, but the festival events here in the capital are the very best, drawing participants and onlookers from all across Mongolia for three days of celebration and competition, including horseracing, wrestling and archery – plus concerts, folk dance and traditional costumes. Today, you’ll attend the exciting opening day’s events. Meals B,L,D Day 6 - Ulaanbaatar Visit the Gandantegchinlen Monastery, the largest and most important in Mongolia, and the Museum of Natural History, tracing centuries of life and culture. Meals B,L,D Day 7 - Ulaanbaatar / Hovsgol Lake Fly to Moron and drive to Hovsgol Lake, the largest in Mongolia set at an elevation of 5,000 feet. Accommodations are in a Ger – a traditional Mongolian tent used for generations by the nomadic herdsmen of Central Asia. Meals B,L,D Ger Camp Day 8 - Hovsgol Lake Spend two days exploring the lake on your choice of included activities: hike along the pristine shoreline, rich with bird and wildlife; or visit with local families, many of whom are reindeer herders. Choose to fish the 800-foot deep waters or go horseback riding across the windswept steppes of Mongolia. Ger Camp – Meals B,L,D Day 9 - Hovsgol Lake Continue your adventure in Hovsgol Lake. Meals B, L, D Day 10 - Hovsgol Lake / Ulaanbaatar Drive back to Moron for your return flight to Ulaanbaatar where you’ll be met and transferred to your superior first class hotel. Meals B,L,D Ulaanbaatar Hotel Day 11 - Ulaanbaatar / Gobi-Yol Valley Fly to the Gobi Desert and transfer to your base camp. Visit Yol Valley National Park for hiking and an opportunity to photograph the stunning scenery, including the Gobi Glacier. The valley is rich in wildlife, such as Ibex and wild sheep. Meals B,L,D Three Camels Ger Camp Day 12 - Hongor Sand Dunes Excursion Explore the Hongoryn Els, or singing sand dunes, named for the eerie sound made by the shifting sands on a windy day. It’s a unique experience to trek and slide among the dunes, some more than 600 feet high! Meals B,L,D Day 13 - Bayan Zag Excursion Follow in the footsteps of “the real Indiana Jones” – Roy Chapman Andrews, an early 20th century explorer and adventurer who became a director of the American Museum of Natural History. It was here at Bayan Zag – also known as the Flaming Cliffs – where Mr. Andrews found the first-known nest of fossilized dinosaur eggs. Return to base camp for dinner and overnight. Meals B,L,D Day 14 - Gobi-Yol / Ulaanbaatar After breakfast in camp, transfer to the airport for your flight to Ulaanbaatar. Upon arrival, visit the Bogdo Khaan Winter Palace, former home of the last Mongolian King, and now a museum of his private collection.
