Umaid Bhawan Palace

Perched high above the desert capital of Jodhpur, Umaid Bhawan Palace is the last of the great palaces of India and one of the largest residences in the world. Designed by famed Edwardian architect Henry Lanchester, the golden-yellow sandstone monument was conceived on a grand scale, in fashionable art deco style, and took 15 years to complete. The palace offers guests a taste of royal living, once only available to kings and queens. The palace, which served as the principal residence of Jodhpur’s royal family, was named after Maharaja Umaid Singh Ji, the grandfather of the present Maharaja of Jodhpur, Maharaja Gaj Singh Ji. All the rooms and suites are embellished with Art Deco interiors and equipped with modern conveniences. All accommodations have plasma TVs, DVD players and a mini bar.

Day 1 - Delhi, India

Day 2 - Explore Delhi
Join your private guide to explore the many facets of this bustling city, from ancient monuments and dramatic moments of post-Colonial history to the vibrancy of 21st century city life. Visit Raj Ghat, the evocative memorial to Mahatma Gandhi, and then delve into fascinating Old Delhi, including a rickshaw tour through the bustling streets. You’ll see the imposing Red Fort, a powerful symbol of the Mughal Empire, and Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India. Delight in the exuberance of Chandni Chowk, the bustling and colorful Old Delhi market, and visit a city bakery to sample freshly-made jalebi, a popular and traditional sweet here in north India.

Then experience the rhythms of modern life as you join your personal guide for a Metro ride to New Delhi. Designed and built by the British in the 1920’s, this part of the city is filled with palatial-sized buildings set on broad tree-lined avenues. Drive along Rajghat, the main avenue, and see the India Gate and Parliament House. You also visit Qutab Minar#WHS# and Emperor Humayun’s Tomb#WHS#. Meals B

Day 3 - Delhi / Agra
Your private car journey this morning takes you southward through the colorful countryside to Agra, where you check-in to your choice of superior first class, deluxe, or luxury hotel. All have been carefully selected for warmth, ambience, and excellent locations. Join your guide for an afternoon of private car sightseeing, including of course the Taj Mahal#WHS#, built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife. Visit the Agra Fort#WHS#, a hilltop citadel with fabulous courtyards, fountains, and gates. Driving through the city, you’ll be fascinated by markets and other scenes of the hustle and bustle of everyday India. Meals B Your choice of accommodation

Day 4 - Agra / Jaipur
Arise early this morning for your sunrise visit to the Taj Mahal, and witness in awe as the translucent white marble of this edifice catches the first golden light of the morning. Return to your hotel for breakfast, and then journey into the Rajasthani countryside, a captivating landscape of timeless villages and a fascinating flow of traffic - including farm vehicles, elephants, camels, and women dressed in the brilliantly colored saris of the region! En route, visit the perfectly preserved, red sandstone “ghost town,” Fatehpur Sikri#WHS#. Built in the 16th century by Emperor Akbar, this veritable fairy tale city and its “ruins” are still in pristine condition, making it easy to imagine the opulence of long-ago court life. Arrive Jaipur in the early evening and check-in to your choice of superior first class, deluxe or luxury hotel. Meals B

Day 5 - Explore Jaipur
Ascend to the Amber Palace atop an elephant and tour this grand monument, legacy of the never-conquered Rajput Kingdom, with its lavish courtyards, beautifully decorated halls and a lovely Chamber of Mirrors. Returning to the city, you’ll visit the Palace Museum to admire its fabulous displays of miniature paintings and traditional Rajasthani royal costumes. See the lovely Palace of the Winds and tour Jantar Mantar, an accurate observatory built in 1726. Experience the daily rhythms of the Pink City on a rickshaw ride and enjoy an opportunity to do some shopping in Jaipur – famous for its brightly embroidered fabrics, carved wooden boxes and finely-crafted jewelry. Day 6 - Jaipur / Ranthambore Tiger Reserve
Journey comfortably by private car deeper into Rajasthan to the renowned Ranthambore National Park. Once the personal hunting ground of the Maharajah of Jaipur, the land was declared a national park in 1980 and listed among the reserves protected under India’s Project Tiger. Set in a valley overlooked by 10th century hilltop fortresses, Ranthambore is home to many of India’s most interesting wildlife species. After checking-in to the hotel of your choice, join your safari guide in an open-air jeep for a thrilling afternoon of game-viewing. Meals B,L,D Your choice of accommodation.

Day 7 - In Ranthambore Tiger Reserve
Our day begins with an early morning game drive, the perfect time to see animals. Though Ranthambore’s tigers are elusive, the valley abounds in other riches – an abundance of deer, birds of all sorts, and romantic ruined temples. The afternoon is set aside for relaxing. Another game drive is scheduled for early this evening when the animals are most active. Meals B,L,D

Day 8 - Ranthambore / Pushkar
Traveling through the Thar Desert comfortably by private car, you arrive this afternoon in Pushkar, set on the edge of a small and beautiful lake. Every November, Pushkar is the site of the famous Camel Fair, where nomads and camel traders bring their livestock – including more than 25,000 camels- to buy, sell and trade. There’s time to relax at your hotel before setting off on a camel cart ride through the surrounding sand dunes. You also explore this small town, home to the only temple of the Hindu God of Creation, Brahma. Meals B,L,D Your choice of accommodation

Day 9 - Pushkar / Jodhpur
Today’s journey brings you to Jodhpur, once the capital of the state of Marwar. After checking-in to your choice of hotel, explore the city with your private guide, including the magnificent Meherangarh Fort, filled with courtyards and palaces. You also see the immense Umaid Bhawan Palace, built between 1928 and 1943, and Jaswant Thada – an imposing white marble cenotaph. Meals B Your choice of accommodation

Day 10 - Jodhpur / Udaipur
This morning’s scenic drive brings you to beautiful Ranakpur Temple, one of the biggest and most important Jain temples in India, set in a remote and peaceful valley of the Aravalli Hill Range. The main temple is the Chamukha Temple with 29 halls supported by 1,444 pillars, with no two alike. Traveling on, you reach Udaipur - undoubtedly the most romantic city in India. Day 11 - Udaipur
Udaipur has been called India’s "City of Dreams" and you’ll see why as you explore Udaipur’s huge City Palace and its museum that contains superb examples of Mogul painting and carving. You’ll also visit the Jagdish temple, which enshrines a black stone image of Lord Vishnu and his vehicle - a mighty bird called Garuda. At Sahelion Ki Bari you’ll have time to wander through the spectacular garden. Later this afternoon, relax on our boat excursion across the placid waters of Lake Pichola. Meals B

Day 12 - Udaipur / Delhi
After breakfast, you’ll be escorted by private car to the airport for your flight to Delhi.
