River Kwai Village Hotel

Situated on the bank of the Kwai Noi River, the River Kwai Village Hotel features 191 air-conditioned rooms, all of which are equipped with television, telephone, and a private balcony. Maekok River Village Resort is located on the banks of the Mae Kok River in northern Chiang Mai. All 29 units are equipped with air-conditioning, telephone, and satellite television. Onsite dining options include the Riverside Bar and Restaurant, built in traditional style using bamboo and rice straw thatch, and the Old Mill Rice Bar.
 
Day 1 - Bangkok, Thailand
Check-in to the Pullman Bangkok King Power Hotel, a contemporary, superior first class property with a great location close to the dining, entertainment and shopping of downtown.

Day 2 - Discover Bangkok
In the intimate company of no more than 16 guests, you’ll join your expert guide today to explore Bangkok’s glittering highlights from a variety of perspectives. Begin with a walking tour through the opulent Grand Palace, former residence of Thai Kings, where you’ll see the impressive Coronation Hall and the beautiful Temple of the Emerald Buddha. Then continue by motor boat to explore the homes and temples that cluster along the Chao Phraya River and the city’s many canals. Visit Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn, and then continue by tuk-tuk (3-wheel taxi) into the bustling streets of Chinatown, one of the city’s oldest districts.

Enjoy leisure time to relax or explore at your own pace before gathering for this evening’s dinner, featuring classic Thai cuisine and a glittering performance of traditional Thai dance presented with exquisite costumes. Meals B,L,D

Day 3 - Bangkok – Damnoen Saduak Excursion
This morning you’ll travel outside the capital to visit the unique floating markets of Damnoen Saduak, the largest and most colorful in all of Thailand, and Phra Pathom Chedi, the tallest Buddhist pagoda in the world. Your afternoon is free to enjoy as you wish. Your hotel’s excellent downtown location affords easy access to the best of the city – from shopping and dining to sightseeing and entertainment. Day 4 - Bangkok / Kanchanaburi Province
Journey into picturesque Kanchanaburi Province, home to the bridge over the River Kwai, to tour the JEATH War Museum and visit the WWII cemetery. Then take an unforgettable train ride aboard the River Kwai Railway over the famous bridge. Check-in to the tranquil River Kwai Village Hotel, where we’ve reserved spacious rooms in the lovely River Wing. After lunch, you’ll travel by boat deep into the lush, tropical forest to visit a Mon Village. Walking with your guide through the village offers enriching insight in their culture and daily life. Tonight’s dinner ends with a performance of Mon Tribal folk dances and music. Meals B,L,D

Day 5 - Kanchanaburi / Chiang Mai
Drive to Bangkok for your flight to Chiang Mai. Upon arrival, you’ll be met and escorted to the city-center Chiang Mai Plaza Hotel, a superior first class property where we’ve reserved Deluxe Rooms. This afternoon, visit the glittering Doi Suthep Temple, built high atop a forested hill.

Tonight’s Khantoke Dinner features northern Lanna-style dishes accompanied by an elegant performance of classical dance. Afterwards, you’ll enjoy a spirited presentation of the music and dance of Thailand’s northern hill tribes. Tonight, take advantage of your hotel’s privileged location to explore the close-by Chiang Mai Night Market, world-famous for unbeatable bargains and an astonishing variety of products, from handcrafted hill tribe jewelry and exquisite textiles to inexpensive clothing and souvenirs. Meals B,D

Day 6 - Chiang Mai - Doi Inthanon Excursion
Join your guide this morning to discover the old Lanna-style buildings of Baan Tawai, many of which now house showrooms and galleries filled with British Colonial and Thai antiques. Then a scenic drive brings you up the forested slopes of Doi Inthanon, the highest mountain in Thailand. After an easy hike to the lovely Mae Klang Waterfalls, you’ll sit down in the cool mountain air for a refreshing picnic lunch. Your afternoon sightseeing includes the Twin Pagodas and a visit to a Meo village, where you’ll learn about the lifestyle, traditional culture, and animist beliefs of this isolated tribe. En route back to the hotel, you’ll also stop by a Karen hill tribe village. Meals B,L

Day 7 - Chiang Mai / Thaton
This morning, we’ve arranged a unique excursion for you to gain deeper insight into Thailand’s enduring Buddhist traditions. At Wat Srisoda, you’ll see monks engaged in their early morning prayer and then participate in the daily ritual of traditional Buddhist food offerings. Continue by rickshaw through Chiang Mai’s historic town center to experience the rhythms of a typical morning market, where city residents complete their daily shopping. Return to your hotel for breakfast and then journey into the jungle to the Mae Taman Elephant Camp. You’ll observe these elephants “at work” – demonstrating the nimble skills that made them so useful in Thailand’s lumber industry. Then get set to explore the forests from a variety of perspectives, from atop an elephant, on an ox-cart ride, and then bamboo rafting along the tranquil Mae Taeng River. After lunch, continue on to Thaton, a northern province on the Myanmar border.

Late in the afternoon, you arrive at the lovely Mae Kok River Village Resort with time to settle-in to your Poolside Suites before our specially-arranged Thai Cooking Class. In a custom-built kitchen, you’ll gather with our chef to learn the preparation of three Thai dishes, before returning to your own fully-equipped station to cook the dishes yourself. Enjoy the fruits of your labor for dinner and depart with a complimentary recipe book so you can repeat your efforts at home! Meals B,L,D

Day 8 - Thaton / Chiang Rai
Journey on the Mae Kok River to Baan Mai and visit a hill tribe village along the way. Then drive through the lush countryside to Mae Chan, where Akha and Yao villagers retain many of their ancient traditions, including colorful, beautifully woven garments. Continue your northward journey after lunch and arrive at the enchanting Dusit Island Resort, with the rest of the day free to enjoy the pool and amenities of your hotel. Meals B,L

Day 9 - Chiang Rai - Excursion to the Golden Triangle
Travel to Mae Sai, the northern-most point of the Thai border with Myanmar and discover the fabled “Golden Triangle” where Thailand, Burma and Laos meet. After lunch, journey through the captivating landscapes to the banks of the Mekong River and visit the provincial town of Chiang Saen, the first capital of the Lanna Kingdom. You return to Chiang Rai for the night. Meals B,L

Day 10 - Chiang Rai / Bangkok
Fly to Bangkok where you’ll be met and escorted to the Pullman Bangkok King Power Hotel. Check-in to your Superior Room and enjoy the balance of the day at leisure. Meals B
